Welcome to the first day of Knitting & Crochet Blog Week 2013!

Like last year, we’ve been given a general topic to write about each day. A code has been allocated to each of the seven days (there’s a list of them at the bottom of my post) and if you type the code into google, bingo – all the blogs that are joining in KCBW that day will pop up. I enjoy hopping around and seeing how differently everyone interprets the topics.

To kick the week off, we’ve been asked to decide which of 4 crafty “houses” we fall into: Bees, Manatees, Monkeys or Peacocks (you can read all about them here). As you can imagine, it’s pretty hard to decide …

Handmade Wardrobe 2013 - Outfit 3

I’m torn between two houses – Bees and Monkeys. And, until I settle on one, I’m just going to carry on beeing mee (sorry … couldn’t help it).

The bee in me flits around stashing delicious yarn and gorgeous fabric. It makes endless mental notes of beautiful patterns and tends to start more projects than is healthy! On the other side, my monkey is desperate to try every method of constructing a sweater, master every knitting and sewing challenge, and pushes me to try to learn something new with just about every project!

The more I think about it … the more I realise that my Handmade Wardrobe project is the best antidote I could have come up with.

Setting out to complete one whole outfit every month means I not only have to narrow down exactly which of the lovely patterns, fabric & yarn I’m going to use, but also, that I have to finish everything, make it all properly so that it’ll last and find ways to keep such an unrelenting schedule interesting! I’ve also had a heap of fun challenging myself to try new crafts like glass fusing and beading. It makes me smile just thinking about it all ….

But, I have to choose just one house. Bee or Monkey …. Bee or Monkey … Bee or Monkey …

While I think about it I’d better tell you about my Just Beeing Mee Giveaway.

This week I’m going to give away some knitting patterns – so that you can start a Handmade Wardrobe of your own. Want to play? Here’s what you have to do:

  • Decide which house you fall into (check out the list at the bottom);
  • Find your perfect knitting or crochet pattern on Raverly (it has to be something YOU can wear, up to the value of US$7);
  • Leave a comment on this post, telling me all about your house and your pattern …

I’ve got three patterns to give away, to three different winners, up to the value of US$7 each! Yippee!!!

The rules are: You may enter only once (please); your pattern has to be available as a download on Ravelry, it must cost no more than US$7 and you have to leave your comment by Midnight Sunday 28 April 2013 GMT. You don’t need a Ravelry account to play. Please make sure your comment includes some way to contact you – Ravelry name, or link your email address to your profile.
(I’ll randomly draw the winners and announce them in a blog post on Monday 29 April 2013.)

And me? MONKEY. I’ll see you tomorrow for more.

The House of Bee: Bees are busy and industrious, but can flit from one interesting project to the next as bright and shiny things capture their interest.

The House of Manatee: Manatees are gentle, calm and cuddly. Relaxed and unflashy they represent the comfort and soft side of knitting and crochet.

The House of Monkey: Intelligent and with a fun loving side, Monkeys like to be challenged with every project presenting them with something new and interesting.

The House of Peacock: Peacocks take something good and make it brilliant. Buttons, embellishments and a bit of sparkle prove that perfection lies in the details – like a Peacock’s Tail.
